A coroners report is being prepared after a body was found on the tracks near Wylam Station.
Emergency services were alerted to the incident just after 8.50 am this morning (March 13) after being told that a casualty had been found on the line.
Railway services throughout the North East and Northumberland were disrupted as emergency services contacted the next of kin.
Trains are now operating according to the latest social media post.
A British Transport Police spokesperson said: "British Transport Police were called just after 8.50am today (13 March) to a casualty on the tracks near Wylam railway station.
"Paramedics and Fire also attended however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.
"The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file is being prepared for the coroner."
A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson added: "We were called to an incident on the railway line in Ryton this morning (13 March) at 8:45am. We dispatched one ambulance crew and one clinical team leader to the incident.
