NATIONAL Puppy Day is a great excuse to take your canine companion to a dog-friendly pub for a spot of food and a refreshing pint.
We rounded up some of the best dog-friendly pubs on National Puppy Day (March 23), according to Google reviews.
The Heart of Northumberland, Hexham is a favourite with both dogs and their owners.
One Google review commented: "Fantastic food, lovely staff and in a stunning listed building. Our dog also appreciated the extra treats and fusses from the patrons."

Another said the food and service were 'fantastic'.
"We had sausage and mash and a burger for main and then sticky toffee pudding to finish. Dog was made very welcome. Would definitely recommend and would come again."
The Tannery, Hexham, had great reviews recommending it as a top spot to take your dog.
"Cracking scran. Tasty, very generous meals. Proper chips means *proper* chips! Quite a "hipster" atmosphere but not in a pretentious way, the staff there were really friendly and went out of their way to fetch water for our dog," one reviewer said.
Another said: "Lovely building and a great menu. Food was great and the dog was welcomed with treats and water bowls. The food menu is great value for money and I’d highly recommend it."
Along with being dog-friendly, Dipton Mill Inn, near Hexham, is recommended for its countryside location and views, good ales and a pub garden to enjoy in summer.
"Lovely traditional pub offers a warm welcome, friendly locals and proper homemade food.
There are fires to keep you cosy in winter and a pub garden for summer, good for all seasons," one review said.
Another said: "A pub that brews its own ale, in possibly the most picturesque setting. Nice selection of beers, nice friendly staff, stunning beer garden. A little off the beaten track, but well worth a visit."
The Coach and Horses, Hexham welcomes dogs into its traditional pub setting.
A reviewer said: "Lovely staff on every occasion I've been, dog friendly too. Top marks for the clean and nicely done toilets too."
Another said: "Very dog-friendly - big item to us. But service and quality of the food and the variety of menu choices are excellent. And great value."
