SEVERAL FIRECREW had to act swiftly to extinguish a campervan on fire at the side of a busy road in Hexham.
The team were alerted to the blaze last night (Monday, March 25) on Gilesgate shortly after 7.30pm.
After arriving on the scene, they closed the road immediately in both directions, which caused traffic on Haugh Lane and near the Aldi junction.
The Mayor of Hexham, Derek Kennedy saw the incident.
He said: “I was out for my evening constitutional and found the campervan on fire with the fire brigade in action.
"The traffic on Haugh Lane were held up and the Aldi junction.
"The vehicle was a smouldering wreck."
A spokesperson for Northumberland Fire and Rescue said: "We can confirm that yesterday evening (Monday, March25) at 7.21pm our fire control received a call to report a campervan on fire on Gilesgate.
"Two fire crews from Hexham attended and the fire was extinguished."
