This summer, theatre-goers in Hexham will experience a unique, bicycle-powered rendition of 'The Comedy of Errors'.
Shakespeare’s classic tale of mistaken identities is being brought to life by the award-winning HandleBards.
Directed by Charlotte Peters, the HandleBards' production will see a troupe of friends pedalling more than 1,500 miles across the UK to reach more than 80 venues.
The actors carry their set, props, and costumes behind them on bikes, sticking to their strong principles of sustainable and environmentally friendly theatre touring.
Since four pals pedalled Twelfth Night to twenty UK venues in 2013, the HandleBards have earned international acclaim for their 'charmingly chaotic' take on Shakespeare.
Their dedication to sustainability has saved an estimated 11 tonnes of carbon emissions, compared with touring by petrol van.
The Comedy of Errors show in Hexham will be held on August 18 at Hexham Abbey, starting at 7pm.
Suitable for those aged eight and above, the play will have a duration of 2 hours, including an interval.
This stopover in Hexham is part of the HandleBards' mission to reach the heart of communities.
Aside from Hexham, the troupe is set to perform in several locations throughout the region including Raby Castle, County Durham, and various venues in and around North East England till September 8.
