Take a look back at previous years of the Allendale Mayfair as we celebrate its return this year with a sci-fi theme on May 4, 5, and 6.
For over three decades, the Allendale Mayfair has been a testament to the strong community spirit of Allendale. This fair, which has evolved over the years, is a true reflection of our community's values and traditions.
It's not just a day out, for the Allendale Fair is a multi-day event that, thanks to its action-packed schedule, brings people back for more.
Guests can enjoy the weekend by taking part in a strongman and strongwoman competition and circus skills while also listening to live music.
And who could forget about the Allendale Mayfair's famous fancy dress wheelbarrow race?
However, there was a concern about the future of fairs in 2016.
Over 60 people packed out a public meeting at Allendale Village Hall, which the fair’s organisers had called Allendale Lions Club, via social media and fought for it to remain.
At a crucial meeting in 2016, the Allendale Lions Club, the fair's organisers, highlighted the need for new volunteers. They emphasised that the future of this 33-year-old fair depends on fresh ideas and energy from the community.
The Allendale Lions’ Margaret Stonehouse said she was impressed with residents' interest in setting up a new organising committee.
The only other break for the fair was during Covid-19, but when it returned, hundreds turned out to welcome back a popular annual event.
