Northumberland Wildlife Trust has launched a new scheme for nature recovery.

Named the Wilder Northumberland Network and funded by the Reece Foundation, the initiative will connect land managers currently involved, or wishing to engage in, nature recovery activities.

The scheme will host a range of resources, including expert advice, experiences and resources.

It will operate on four key principles.

These include making space for water through practices like rewetting and floodplain management; making space for trees and scrub through native planting and encouraging wilder hedgerows; letting nature lead through diminishing management or naturalised grazing, and connecting habitats through management of river corridors, hedges, margins, and verges.

Graham Holyoak, Wilder Northumberland development officer said: "There are several large nature recovery projects ongoing in Northumberland but there are also many individuals looking to undertake work on their land.

"The Wilder Northumberland Network is here to help connect and support these people and projects to share knowledge and create a more connected, nature rich Northumberland."

The network welcomes inquiries from those managing at least 5ha of land or a 1km linear corridor and who are following at least one of its principles.

The first event for the network is slated for May 31 at Newton and Bywell Community Hall.
