Haltwhistle Town Councillor Marie Hodgson Bowes has been nominated for Hexham Courant's 'Person of the Week'.
This comes after numerous nominations of the town councillor to be praised for going 'above and beyond' her role as a town official for her neighbours and any resident in the community.
One of those who put Maries's name forward is Terry Christie, the owner of the Manor House in Haltwhistle.
Last week, Marie visited Terry's opening ceremony for his new outside bar. Terry has always shown a fundamental interest in any business venture or charity fundraiser he has held.
“ I would like to recommend Marie Hodgson Bowes as Hexham Courant's Person of the Week because ever since I’ve known Marie, she has been tirelessly working for the community in many different ways, helping organise litter picks, children’s events, fundraisers, and shopping for the elderly. Her work as a Town Councillor is excellent; she literally never stops.
"She helps families with bereavement, child care, garden tidy-ups, advice, housing, and the list goes on and on.
"Once, we were both sat in a Town Council Meeting as Councillors of Haltwhistle and the issue of rubbish in the Haltwhistle burn was raised straight after the meeting.
"Marie said let’s go and clear that rubbish, so we went down to the burn. Before I knew it, Marie had he trouser legs rolled up, and she was knee-deep in the burn picking out the rubbish.
"At another meeting, some tree felling exposed cuts had not been sealed, and once again, myself and Marie went to investigate, and there was Marie climbing the trees to help me seal the freshly cut branches.
"I could go on all day when it comes to talking about Marie’s great work for the community she loves.
"But I will finish off with this statement Marie is an angel of Haltwhistle who would help anyone in need and genuinely cares from the heart for everyone in our community and the award of person of the week would be a small token of appreciation and I feel I speak for the everyone who knows Marie.”
