A Hexham school has said it is proud of its good rating by Ofsted, where pupils are said to feel 'valued'.

Slaley First School earned praise for its positive nurturing environment.

The inspectors noted: "This is a small school where staff know the pupils well and everyone feels valued.

"Pupils enjoy being part of such a close and caring community.

"Staff and pupils abide by the school’s values.

"All have a positive approach to work."

Pupils, including those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), benefit from a rich array of activities like mindfulness, yoga, piano tuition, and tennis.

Ofsted highlighted the pupils' opportunities saying: "Staff lay on many activities to promote pupils’ personal development."

They also appreciated the leadership roles that older pupils undertake, including reading ambassadors and playground buddies.

Ofsted remarked: "Leaders and staff have developed an engaging curriculum that is ambitious for all pupils, including those with SEND."

Pupils are introduced to new learning in small, logical steps enabling progressive knowledge building.

Teachers, backed by strong subject knowledge, offer effective guidance and use assessments responsibly to shape future teaching.

The governors share high ambitions for the school and provide helpful support. Staff are said to be proud to work at the school.
