THE community has praised a charity employee for her 'hard work' and 'constant dedication'.
Zoe Keen, 33, lives in Acomb and was nominated for this week's Person of the Week by several readers for her work at Hexham's Torch Centre.
She was chosen by readers including Juliet Knowles, who said: "Zoe Keen for all her hard work in putting on events at The Torch Centre in Hexham and her constant dedication to raise money for charities."
Zoe is the facilities coordinator and caretaker at the community centre, but before that, she spent years fundraising for the charity.
She said the centre 'is very important to many people in so many ways'. She has now worked there for more than a year as an employee.
Zoe said: "I love what I do for the people that come in, not just on a day-to-day basis but for the people who come into the bar and come along to the fundraiser functions I do.
"Each one is different and I am able to help and support the people that come in. Most of our bar members are people with additional needs and unfortunately, Hexham doesn't have anywhere else like the Torch Centre, we help build relationships and socialisation skills. It is a safe space for anyone who uses the Torch Centre.
"We are family-friendly as well so it means that families can come and enjoy the events as well. The Torch Centre is not just a charity but it's like a family, we all look out for each other and we always make sure everyone is okay and enjoying what we have on, even if it is the daily groups, we still want all our users to enjoy their experience at the Torch Centre.
"Unfortunately the Torch isn't doing the best and we are trying our hardest to get more people in and to use the centre. I am working alongside some amazing people and groups so we can continue to help and support everyone who comes into the Torch.
"It's a fantastic multi-functioning facility that can cater for anyone and any need, there isn't a place in Hexham like the Torch for the people that use the centre and benefit from it," she added.
