Northumberland residents and businesses are being united by a partnership seeking to boost employment.

The Northumberland Employment Partnership (NEP), a project funded by the North East Combined Authority, will connect employers with training providers to create opportunities for job seekers.

Both job hunters and employers are encouraged by programme leaders to participate.

A collaboration between Northumberland County Council and Advance Northumberland, and led by the Employment Skills Partnership, NEP believes there are close ties between business growth and the development of individuals' skills and confidence.

Specialists work hand in hand with organisations to approach recruitment issues and improve training and support.

Additional support from Advance Northumberland means employers can address concerns that may hamper growth, identify potential funding opportunities, and recruit and upskill staff.

Residents are supported into work by a network of employability and skills providers, made up of more than 120 member organisations.

Lauren Dixon, employability project officer with Newcastle United Foundation, said: "On the first day, it’s always nerve-racking for the participants but it’s amazing as the weeks go on to see them flourish, build new social skills and make new friends through these courses."
