Northumberland-based heating installer Craig Gilhome has been announced as the North East's top contender in the Heating Installer Awards 2024.

Mr Gilhome, from Prudhoe, has been offering his expertise to customers since 1989, launching his own company, Craig Gilhome Heating and Plumbing, 15 years later in 2004.

His team offers various beneficial services which include designing heating systems for newly built homes and various renewables projects.

Mr Gilhome’s winning submission showcased a newly built property located in a remote hamlet within the Northumberland National Park.

The project required him to install an air source heat pump, arrange pipework, underfloor heating, radiators and fit a new bathroom.

Mr Gilhome spoke glowingly about his award-winning work, saying: "This job was different because I really pushed the boundaries and exceeded my expectations on what I thought was possible on low-temperature heating design.

"Due to this, the home will be extremely efficient and offer low running costs.

"The customer will have a nice comfortable living environment all year round no matter what the Northumberland weather throws at them!"

But the accolades did not stop there for the North East.

Nic Pearse of Durham Gecko Heating gained commendable recognition.

The intense North East competition led to Mr Pearse receiving a Highly Commended award due to the standard of his work.

The awards are a nationwide recognition scheme in their ninth year and highlight the daily efforts of and boost the reputation of heating installers and plumbers across the country.

Judgements were made based on excellent customer service, problem-solving abilities, knowledge of products and standout work by representatives from industry partners and previous winners.

The competition is not over yet, as the public was able to vote for either Mr Gilhome or Mr Pearse, pushing them towards the 2024 Heating Installer Awards national winner title via voting on the Heating Installer Awards website.

Votes closed on May 28, but the public's involvement will contribute a third to the installer's overall scores, with judges scoring and technical challenge results making up the rest.

The final winners will be announced on June 26 at the Installer Show in Birmingham NEC.
