Newcastle Airport is celebrating a reduction in carbon emissions over the past 12 months.

The airport has seen a fall in emissions by 31 per cent, while also seeing a 34 per cent boost in biodiversity.

Announcing the progress in its second Corporate Sustainability Report, the airport aims to reach its Net Zero Carbon goal by 2035.

Recent investments include electric vehicles and a solar farm, capable of supplying all the airport's electricity needs on a sunny day.

Newcastle Airport CEO, Nick Jones said: “From community volunteering and the planting of wildflower meadows, to continuing to invest in our electric vehicle fleet and rolling out innovative new recycling schemes – I am proud of the commitment and passion demonstrated by all our colleagues in relation to CSR."
