A POPULAR family event returned to a town alongside the official opening of a redeveloped skate park.
Highfield Fest returned to Prudhoe's Highfield Park on June 1, as the renovated Highfield Skate Park was officially opened.
CANVAS Spaces partnered with Prudhoe Town Council to deliver the £180,000 skate park scheme.
A spokesperson for Prudhoe Town Council, which owns and manages Highfield Park, said: "What a fantastic day for the return of the much-loved Highfield Fest, families turned up in droves to enjoy the summer atmosphere and although organisers were worried at first with the early morning grey clouds that the day would be a washout, the sun shone and lasted all day.
"The event stayed busy throughout, young people and families were still about later in the day enjoying the park."
Prudhoe Family Hub and Prudhoe Community Partnership offered activities to families.
Painted Faces by Julie Charlton had a queue all day from 11am until 5pm. Organisers praised Julie as 'an amazing artist', who has attended every year since the fair began. Also in attendance was a local crafter selling handcrafted wares.
Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service entertained children and young people with the fire engine, as well as Salus Medical with an ambulance.
Canvas and Team Extreme travelled from Bristol for the official opening of the skatepark and launched the scooter and skateboard competitions.
Mayor Cllr Angie Scott officially opened the skatepark and thanked all councillors past and present who were an integral part in the fruition of the skatepark, and welcomed everyone to Highfield Park and the return of Highfield Fest and hoped everyone enjoyed the event.
Mr Disco Man was also onsite keeping the crowds entertained with music and games, Carnival Fun Fairs brought shuggy boats, spinning teacups and car rides, Bounce ‘n’ Slide provided inflatable slides.
There was a sweet stall, catering vans of burgers and hot dogs, and wood-fired pizza, coffee and Mr Whippy Ice Cream – all of whom had a queue all day long.
Organisers thanked all those who supported and offered their services throughout the event.
The event was free for those visiting, excluding food and drinks, and was paid for by Prudhoe Town Council.
