Mr Wolf, an independent toy shop in Hexham, has been named as the Courant's trader of the week.

Owned by Austin and Lindsey Birney, the shop on Market Street is preparing to celebrate its 10th year in business, as it continues to provide gifts and toys for kids between 0 and 13.

Last week, Mr Wolf acted as the ticket office for Hexham Hidden Gardens' fundraising event, which took place on Sunday June 9.

Hexham Community Partnership paid tribute to their efforts, and generosity in doing it for free.

They said: "We are very grateful to Mr Wolf toy shop on Market Street for selling the hard copy tickets for our Hexham Hidden Gardens fundraising event.

"They haven't charged us a penny for doing it and they're open seven days a week, which is very handy for people who don't want to buy their tickets online. Great community spirit."

Speaking to the Hexham Courant, Lindsey said: "We sell everything from games, to puzzles, to books. We work closely with a lot of schools and charities in the area to support them through donations and raffle prizes. We also work closely with the Hexham Community Partnership to spread the word on their events, because it attracts thousands of people into the town centre. They are a great organisation who are doing brilliant work."

The toy shop is open seven days a week, only closing on holidays such as Christmas and Boxing Day, which has helped solidify their reputation as one of Hexham's most respected businesses.

Lindsey added: "We're always open really, there's always somebody here. We have a lot of people who like to call in for a chat. I feel like we are a hub in the community. It's so lovely to be able to see the kids grow up.

"We are really lucky to be able to do what we do. There are so many incredible groups in Hexham working hard. It's so nice to be part of such a friendly growing independent scene in Hexham. Everyone is so enthusiastic and pulling in the same direction for the town."
