A YOUNG actor is anticipating his first big role in a theatre production.

Liam Mather-Pender, 11, is a passionate actor who has made a fantastic start in local, regional and national productions.

He will perform the leading role as wartime evacuee William Beech in the Queen's Hall Theatre Club's production of Goodnight Mister Tom.

Liam said: "When I was four I started going to the theatre with my Grandma and I just loved it.

"Acting makes me feel at home, it’s just me. I think if you love it, that makes you good at it.

"I have done lots of roles but this one is big, there are so many emotions that you have to get. You have to be not just a little bit sad, but very sad. You can’t come in half-hearted.

"I think the best bit in the performance is when I call Mr Tom 'Dad'. That’s the best emotional bit."

Liam's previous acting credits include:

  • Fantastic Mr Fox with Queen’s Hall Theatre Club
  • Vicar of Dibley with Queen’s Hall Theatre Club
  • Treasure Island with Queen’s Hall Theatre Club
  • Pauline Quirke Academy in Newcastle – including being selected to take part in Troubles Are Brewing at the Her Majesty’s Theatre in London’s West End
  • The Nativity with Starlight Productions at Tyne Theatre & Opera House
  • West End Prep group in Newcastle – Gavroche in Les Miserables
  • Looking forward to a further Starlight role in November in a production of A Christmas Carol
