A HAIRDRESSING team has made the cut by winning several industry awards.

Saks Hexham is celebrating winning four of the annual Saks Salon Awards including Customer Experience Salon of the Year, which is based on customer reviews.

The Saks awards involve direct competition with more than 80 UK Saks salons.

The salon won Saks' award for Fundraising Salon of the Year after the staff raised £13,068 in February for the Eve Appeal, a charity established for gynaecological cancer research.

The third award was Saks' Image of the Year, for salon director Emma Brown's creative dress made from hair extensions.

The final award was a Special Recognition Award for Jodie Davis, who achieved special distinctions in all of her hairdressing apprenticeship exams and is building a successful column of her own clients in the salon.

Salon manager Shannon Currah, 27, said she was 'very proud' of the team for their hard work.

"We've all worked very hard, to get the recognition on a national level is fantastic and a real confidence boost. I just want to keep up the momentum for the future.

"Getting the Special Recognition Award shows the level of commitment Jodie has put in and will give her the confidence to do really well in future."

In the coming weeks, Saks Hexham will find out the results of the L’Oreal Colour Trophy, the UK's biggest colouring competition, for which one apprentice, Isla McKelvie, has already won the Future Talent Award.

Jess Smith, Jodie Davis, Hannah Porter and Jessica Bridges also reached the finals of the Colour Trophy.

"We've got four other finalists who will find out their results on July 8. We also have the British Hairdressing Business Awards coming up on July 1 to see if we win that."

Shannon was shortlisted for one of the Business Awards in the Manager of the Year category. She was a finalist in the same awards last year.

She added the staff thanked their clients for all their support. "We couldn't do it without them," she said.

The team won Saks Salon of the Year in 2023, while Jodie Davis won Advanced Apprentice of the Year and Shannon won two awards; the Special Recognition Award and the Creative Image Award.
