Five new Deputy Lieutenants have been appointed for Northumberland.

Carol Clayton from Ponteland, Julie Cordon from Ashington, Alison Germany from Corbridge, Keith Montgomery from Berwick-upon-Tweed, and Iain Nixon from Rothbury will be filling the vacancies.

Their role will involve assisting Dr Caroline Pryer, the King’s official representative for the county.

Deputy Lieutenants must reside within the county, or within seven miles of the boundary, and are chosen by the Lord-Lieutenant, receiving their commission when the King gives his approval.

Each Lieutenant has been appointed for an initial period of five years.

Dr Pryer, who commenced her role in May 2024, is the second woman to be the Lord-Lieutenant of the county, following the Duchess of Northumberland's retirement.

She praised the newly appointed Deputy Lieutenants.

Dr Pryer said: "Each new Deputy Lieutenant has deep roots and extensive networks within their community, and they will bring expertise in their field to the Northumberland Lieutenancy.

"I greatly welcome their contribution and look forward to working with them complementing our existing Deputy Lieutenants."
