A MAJOR retailer will open new premises in a significant town location.

The Range, a leading UK home, leisure and garden retailer, confirmed it will open a new store at the site of the former Marks & Spencer on Maiden's Walk, Hexham in September 2024.

A launch event, complete with customer giveaways, will be announced once the opening date is revealed.

Hexham mayor Derek Kennedy said: "A high-quality national retailer in The Range coming to Hexham shows the town is very attractive. While I am very sad M&S has left, it is fantastic news The Range is taking this substantial building, Hexham is going onwards and upwards.”

The former M&S closed for the final time on May 25 following an initial announcement back in late February proposing the closure, leaving a large empty unit in the town.

M&S plans to close dozens of stores UK-wide over the next five years, which is hoped will save the business millions of pounds.

The new Range store aims to be a local one-stop-shop where shoppers can conveniently find everything they need under one roof at affordable prices.

The store opening will create new jobs, boosting the local retail economy.

Recruitment events are taking place throughout July, and interested applicants should visit The Range’s website.
