WE asked our readers which breweries and microbreweries they liked in Hexham and Tynedale.

Here are five popular Tynedale breweries to try this summer.

Muckle Brewing, near Haltwhistle, was recommended by readers including Shirley Nixon and Joanne Lowes.

The brewery, located in the garden of owners Tom and Nicola Smith, specialises in small batch unfiltered and naturally carbonated beers in cask and bottle.

One Facebook review said: "Amazing beers, lovely brewers, bought a selection at Brampton Farmers Market and highly recommend."

The First & Last Brewery, Bellingham was recommended by Angela Wilson, who described it as a 'lovely family-run business'.

It is run by owners Sam and Red Kelly and it has a beer garden on-site.

One Facebook review said: "Great selection of beers with guests too, mango coconut sour was superb."

Twice Brewed Brewery at Hadrian's Wall was mentioned by Meg Jane Cruden and Sue Bambridge.

In the taproom, find a fully stocked bar sharing the brewery's best beers and gins or take them outside onto the beer garden patio.

One review said: "Wonderful beer. Excellent food and a great pub to spend time."

Lynsey Procter nominated Flying Gang Brewing, Ponteland.

According to the brewery, their goal is to 'provide quality, innovation, and a warm, friendly environment for you to enjoy our lovingly crafted, high-quality beers'.

One review said: "Great place to grab a pint and some fantastic street food," while another said: "Lovely little hidden gem, great choice of beers and we had a pizza which was delicious, definitely worth a visit."

The owners of the popular Dipton Mill Inn near Hexham established Northumberland's oldest brewery, Hexhamshire Brewery, in 1992.

A small range of beers are brewed at any one time which includes a core selection of firm favourites surrounded by several seasonal ales and specially commissioned and bespoke brews.

One happy reviewer said: "Fantastic service from Hexhamshire Brewery when we ordered a few cases of their amazing beers that we enjoy drinking when we holiday near The Dipton Mill Inn near Hexham. Very prompt despatch and excellent courier delivery. Will be ordering again."
