A women's group in Hexham and Tynedale is currently recruiting new members.

Inner Wheel, with past ties to the Rotary organisation, is an international women's group, which hosts clubs in over 100 countries with more than 100,000 members.

It is thought to be the largest group of its kind worldwide.

Inner Wheel came into being in Manchester and celebrated its 100-year anniversary earlier this year in April.

Around 3,000 women convened in Manchester for this event.

Despite the decline in British and Irish memberships, thought to be largely due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Hexham & Tynedale branch has approximately 24 committed members coming together for monthly lunch meetings.

These get-togethers range from featuring guest speakers to brainstorming fundraising ideas and hosting coffee mornings.

In addition, the group also regularly collects for the local food bank and organises knitting afternoons and group excursions.

The organisation prides itself on the variety of good causes it supports at home and overseas.

This year alone, donations have been gifted to organisations such as Northumberland Domestic Abuse, Wag & Co (Friendship Dogs), Alzheimer’s, Tynedale Hospice and SEDCU (Supporting Education of Disadvantaged Children in Uganda).

The Inner Wheel representatives also expressed gratitude for the contributions received at their recent street collection for local charities.

Ladies interested in joining the group are welcome to reach out.

The Inner Wheel Club assured newcomers of a warm and friendly environment focused on service, understanding and camaraderie.
