A walk along the River Tyne organised by the Game and Wildlife Conservation Trust (GWCT) took place last week.

Marina Gibson, a fly fishing instructor and conservationist, and Dylan Roberts, GWCT's head of fisheries, led the river walk, which started at Church Hut and ended at Millers Hut.

Describing the experience, Marina said: "We had an outstanding turnout for the Game Wildlife Conservation Trust walk at Bywell yesterday.

"Starting from Church Hut and ending at Millers Hut, we enjoyed engaging discussions about the essential elements for a healthy river, the lifecycle of the Atlantic salmon, fish environments, keystones for young fish, invasive species, and the pros and cons of hatcheries, among other topics.

"It was an honour to support the charity and connect with so many passionate anglers, conservationists, and locals."

Ms Gibson praised Clara Nicholl for providing refreshments and thanked Sophie Dingwall and Dick Murphy for organising the event.

Ms Gibson finished by expressing her gratitude to Allendale Estate for providing transportation and to those who attended.

She said: "Lastly, thank you to everyone who attended, and we hope to see you again soon!"
