A company that provides community sponsorship to the Greenest Cricket Club Corbridge has partnered with SSE to provide rooftop solar PV installations for businesses across the country.
As part of Ortus Energy's deal with SSE, the latter's customer division, SSE Energy Solutions, will take over 13MW of rooftop solar assets already installed across various sites owned by six significant corporate customers.
The company has an exclusive option to finance up to 130MW solar projects at commercial premises over the next three years.
It will fund the development and installation of solar panels upfront, allowing business customers to pay a fixed rate for the power generated through long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs).
Ortus Energy will identify and develop these projects.
Alistair Booth, chief executive officer of Ortus Energy, said: “Ortus Energy's expertise in identifying and developing solar projects, combined with SSE Energy Solutions' commitment to helping businesses become sustainable, creates a powerful alliance that can boost the commercial solar landscape in GB and demonstrates Ortus’ leading position in the commercial and industrial solar development space.”
In addition to the solar initiative, SSE is making progress on a pipeline of grid-scale solar and battery projects across the UK and Ireland and has worked with commercial customers to install and manage behind-the-meter solar assets.
Nikki Flanders, managing director of SSE Energy Customer Solutions, said: “This partnership is another demonstration of how at SSE Energy Solutions, we are playing our part to bring the benefits of greener energy directly to the roofs of businesses across Great Britain by providing up-front project finance.
“Making inroads into UK-wide decarbonisation targets requires a multi-pronged approach, and this includes equipping businesses with the services and products they need to decarbonise their buildings and operations."
Charles Bagshaw, head of technical services at Ortus Energy, said: "We at Ortus Energy are extremely excited to be in Partnership with SSE.
"They will join us in supporting the delivery of a nation leading Zero Carbon County and enhancing Cumbria’s reputation as a pioneer in clean energy, and part of the Northern Powerhouse."
