Pupils at a Hexham primary school enjoyed exciting employer engagement projects and showcases.

Students at Acomb First School were treated to various educational visits to places such as Kielder, Cragside National Trust and Hextol Tans to help bring learning to life and make links between the children’s learning and local jobs.

The Chestnut class's project focused on renewable energy, science and geography, while the Maple class were learning about food production and balanced healthy meals.

Children then produced a showcase to demonstrate what they had learnt, performing a rap and restaurant recreation.

Sam in Year 2 said: "I loved serving the food to the parents at the showcase. Working with Hextol and Hjem helped us to learn how to cook."

Raven said: “Hextol and Hjem used great leadership skills when they showed us how to cook and Aly helped to know how to set a table properly and told us all about how the restaurant worked."

Skye in Chestnut class said: "I thought it was fun and I learnt loads. My favourite bit was presenting at the showcase."

Marnie said: "It was a very interesting project and we learnt a lot about energy and how important it is for the planet. My favourite part was performing the rap. I enjoyed learning about the different careers in the wind turbine workshop and how they use green skills."

Hugo said: "I enjoyed learning about the careers at Cragside and Kielder. I found it interesting when we learnt about the water release because it didn’t function the way I thought it would have."

A Northumbrian Water spokesperson said: "I was actually blown away by how great the entire class was. I could see great learning and understanding from all. Laura should be very proud of the delivery as these events don't just happen they take time and dedication. I hope Kielder can be involved in more projects in the future."

Connor from Northumberland College said: "The kids were brilliant really confident and well spoken. They are a credit to the school, thank you for letting me be involved."
