Almost 30 reckless drivers were reported for different offences during a weekend crackdown by the Northumbria Police and partners.
On July 20 and July 21, the Force's Road Policing Unit and the Go North East bus company hopped on a double-decker bus to spot motorists committing offences while on the move, one of the ‘Fatal Four’ contributing factors that could see people killed and seriously injured on the roads.
As a result, 26 drivers were reported for different offences such as using a mobile phone, having illegal registration plates, not being in proper control of their vehicle, failing to wear a seatbelt, and contravening traffic signs and signals.
Police Constable Andrew Clarke of Northumbria Police said: “We’ve had another very successful weekend of action with help from our transport partners – which has led to a string of reckless road users being reported for putting others at risk.”
He said the targeted activity is carried out throughout the year against those who endanger the lives of other road users.
Ben Maxfield, Business Director at Go North East, said: “At Go North East we are dedicated to promoting safe driving and our own teams are trained to provide a safe and professional service to the public."
