The Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art in Gateshead was the North East's most popular free attraction in 2023, according to a newly published survey.
According to VisitEngland, the country's official tourist board, the art centre welcomed 411,200 visitors in 2023, an increase of more than 30,000 compared to the previous year.
The gallery expects its ten millionth visitor in March 2025.
Sarah Munro MBE, director of Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art, said: "We’re all incredibly proud to have retained the title of the North East’s most popular free attraction.
"It’s testament to the amazing artists we collaborate with, and our wonderfully talented and dedicated team, both behind the scenes and front of house."
Explore the four galleries with 2,600 square metres of art space, a rooftop restaurant, a café/bar, a library, and a Sensory Room at Baltic.
They also have various family activities throughout the summer holidays.
These include Toddler Time, Wonder and Wander Tours, Baltic Stars, and artist-led workshops.
These initiatives aim to engage visitors and foster a love for art among the younger generation.

Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens was the second most popular free attraction in the North East, with 269,588 visitors.
