LIFE drawing classes have been a hit with local artists with classes selling out every month.

Megan Charlton established Hexham Life Drawing in January after finishing her Fine Art degree and returning to the town.

"I realised there is a huge creative community in this area, but the closest life drawing classes are in Newcastle, which is too far for a lot of people, including myself," she said.

"Initially, I held one class a month for a very small group at Green Bee, but I quickly realised that there was so much interest that I needed to find a bigger venue, which is why I moved to The Garden Coffee House, which has been the perfect venue for my classes due to its lovely vibe and delicious snacks available for our artists. Now I have three classes a month, which always sell out.

"I run traditional life drawing classes with a nude model, and recently I began hosting themed classes with a clothed model as well. For example in July, we had a classical cellist perform for us and we drew her while she played. In August, we have a contemporary dancer coming to model dance poses which I’m very excited about."

She said for future classes, there will be a ballerina, a circus performer, a yogi, and more musicians to draw.

"The classes are always so relaxed, friendly, and non-judgemental. I’m so grateful for the little creative community which has grown as a result of Hexham Life Drawing.

"Life drawing is for everyone, from those who have never drawn, to professional artists. Most of my regulars began as complete beginners who just wanted to try something new, and now I see them improving week by week, which is so lovely to see and it makes it all worthwhile," Megan added.

Hexham Life Drawing classes run on Thursday evenings, but it is essential to book a place beforehand.

Tickets are still available for the class on August 22 featuring Eve Walker, the contemporary dancer, and the traditional drawing class on August 29.
