A POSTWOMAN was nominated for Person of the Week for her 'dedication' to her job.

We ask our readers weekly to nominate someone they think deserves to be nominated for Person of the Week and why.

Karen Robinson, from Hexham, has been a Royal Mail postwoman for nearly a decade and said she was 'overwhelmed' to be nominated by Hexham Courant readers.

She is the Hindley Hill postie, which covers areas including Catton, Keenly and Whitfield, but said she has done a lot of other duties in the time she's worked at Royal Mail.

"I've worked at Royal Mail for nine years, there's been a lot of changes in that time but I still love my job. I work with a great team and we all help one another, I've made some great friends. I love the fact that my duty is a rural duty and I get to deliver around a beautiful area," she said.

Becki Colquhoun was one reader who nominated Karen. She said: "I feel that she deserves to be recognised for all of the hard work she does as a postie. Always making sure everyone gets their post. She works so hard at what she does. Always brings a smile to people's faces, such a friendly and caring person. Such a hard worker."

Chris Knowles and Gary Newton also voted for her, 'for the dedication to her job in the Royal Mail getting everyone's post to them', Gary said.

Karen explained whether she would encourage people to join Royal Mail to become a postie. She said: "The job isn't for everyone but if you're willing to work hard, be part of a team and love being out and about, then yes I would. You need good people skills, the customer is very important and they are the ones that make your job worthwhile. That's why we have a job.

"It's not easy, but be positive, be part of the team and care about yourself and your customers," she said.
