Ponteland Park is set to host one of the town's 'most popular' events.

The annual duck race, organised by Rotary Ponteland, will take place on September 1.

Rotary president, John Cooper, said: "The response from local businesses to sponsor the duck races has been fantastic.

"All nine races were sponsored within three days of the launch, but we still have plenty of boats to sponsor in our business boat race."

Entry to the park is free, and tickets for the duck races will be on sale at Waitrose Ponteland on August 16 and 17, online, and in the park on the day.

A market area with stalls, children's rides, and a horse and pony from Stepney Bank Stables will be present.

Food and drinks will also be available.

The event is supported by Newcastle International Airport, and Ponteland Town Council has provided a grant for portaloos and bins.

The main charity beneficiary this year is The Dragonfly Cancer Trust, which provides support to young cancer patients and their families through cash gifts, memory and sibling boxes, activity boxes, and personalised keepsakes.
