More than 20 Newcastle College graduates have secured jobs at Newcastle Airport.

The students gained employment after participating in the College's Ambassador Programme, a volunteering scheme that allows students to learn about various airport departments, including security and operations.

The programme is aimed at Aviation Operations students at the College's Aviation Academy.

Of the 45 students who graduated from the Ambassador Programme in 2024, 24 have secured jobs at the airport.

Among them are Sophie Shaw and Saoirse Walton, who joined the airport as seasonal security support officers in April.

Ms Walton said that she enjoys working at the airport.

She said: "It’s an exciting place to work, especially when it is busy, and everyone is so friendly.

"I always wanted to work in the aviation industry and the Ambassador Programme helped me develop and learn new skills to get my foot in the door."

Ms Shaw said: "Whilst on the programme, I worked with the Passenger Assistance Team.

"It was a great and rewarding experience helping passengers and made me more confident.

"I’ve been able to use these skills in my job in security and I’m really enjoying it."
