The majority of students achieved the results required to continue to sixth form. Others successfully gained entry to colleges and apprenticeships due to their results.

85 per cent of students achieved a 9-4 in Maths, English Literature or English Language and over 60 per cent gained grades 9-5 in both English and Maths.

Neil Seaton, head of school, said: “It was joyful to see many of our students in school this morning to collect their results and share in their excitement. The results achieved are a credit to the students, their families and all the staff. We are looking forward to welcoming the vast majority back to sixth form and sending the rest of our alumni into further education or employment with best wishes."

Amanda Fletcher-Woods, assistant headteacher, said: “Staff at QEHS are committed to making sure that students achieve the best possible outcomes in their examinations. Our students have been incredibly positive, calm and mature throughout their studies. I am proud of what the staff and students have achieved this year."

Haydon Bridge High School students received their GCSE and BTEC Tech results, with the vast majority of students achieving the grades required to allow them to continue with their chosen route of study beyond Year 11.

The Year 12 cohort will be the biggest seen at Haydon Bridge in many years, with students opting for a wide range of traditional A Levels, BTEC courses such as Business, Engineering and Applied Science and vocational courses including Catering, Hair and Beauty and Construction.

David Nisbet, headteacher, said: "We are so proud of the achievements of our Year 11 students and cannot wait to see so many of them back in Sixth Form very soon. We wish all our Year 11s every success in the future."

Ponteland High School was pleased to report its best-ever GCSE and vocational results this summer. Students achieved outstanding grades across all subject areas.

Seventy-seven students (30 per cent of the cohort) achieved five or more of the highest grades, i.e. grades 7-9 (previously A*-A).

Notable individual performances include these students who achieved 10 or more subjects awarded at grade 8 and 9:

  • Manvitha Adala
  • Matthew Duffy
  • Zak Harris
  • Beatrix Reynolds
  • Archie Carter
  • Felix Webster
  • Frank Whitfield

Ponteland High School headteacher, Stefan McElwee, said: “We are delighted to celebrate our best-ever GCSE results across all subject areas today.

"We have seen results jump significantly in all subjects from 2023, with very notable increases in Maths, English, Science and Modern Foreign Languages.

"We are particularly delighted for this group of Year 11 students as they were the first Year 7 cohort we welcomed as part of our transition to a secondary school in 2019, following the local reorganisation of schools in the Ponteland area.

"Having the students for a full five years has no doubt had a positive impact on their achievement; for example, all of our students study a Modern Foreign Language with 63 per cent of the cohort achieving a grade 5 or better and over 70 per cent achieving a grade 4 or better.

"All of our students should be extremely proud of themselves; they have shown a strength of character and an impressive work ethic. I look forward to celebrating their results with them today and welcoming many of them back into our Sixth Form. I am confident that in the next two years, they will continue to achieve exceptionally well in their Post 16 courses, supported by excellent staff and their parents."
