Northern is offering Tyne and Wear students 50% off school run rail tickets for the 2024-25 academic year.

The move is designed to help children under 16, and their parents or guardians, make a switch from road to rail during the school run.

The discount is available until Friday, September 20, through Northern's Under 16 Education Season Ticket scheme.

For example, students at Queen Elizabeth High School in Hexham, or at Newcastle High School for Girls in Newcastle, could travel between Hexham and Newcastle for the entire school year for £408 using the discount, down from £816.

Mark Powles, of Northern, said: "As well as providing a significant saving on the cost of the school commute, U16 Education Season Tickets can be used at weekends and bank holidays, too."
