A YOUNG girl hit an impressive fundraising target for a community centre.

Six-year-old Lily Keen from Acomb enjoys being outdoors and spending time with horses and her friends like any other child.

Yet she has raised more than £1,000 for The Torch Centre in Hexham through a GoFundMe appeal and cash donations.

Her mother, Zoe, is the facilities coordinator and caretaker at the community centre, but before that, she spent years fundraising for the charity.

The Torch is a multi-use space used by several groups for regular bookings and various events are held at the centre which are open to everyone to attend and socialise.

Zoe said she 'could not be prouder' of Lily for her efforts.

"She raised the money for The Torch Centre as she attends it with me and her grandad who have both worked there.

"Lily walked around the Derwent Reservoir on August 3 with me, her aunty Erin and a family friend Donna who is also a member of The Torch Centre. Her grandad Jeff, sister Katie and two members of the centre, Caroline Harris and Robin Catnach, all came along to see Lily when she finished her walk.

"She walked the loop of 5.2 miles of the Reservoir with ease, she talked all the way around. Lily knows how important The Torch is to many people. Lily understands that it is a safe place for people from all different backgrounds to feel safe and welcomed, as she has been attending the Torch Centre since she was born.

"Lily would like to thank all who have donated and supported her to do her walk and to reach her target, which was only £300 to start with.

"Lily also took along a star and an octopus that was made from one of the member's mums to help support The Torch Centre."

There is still a pot in The Torch Centre's bar for people to donate.

"She did amazing, I could not be prouder of her. She told everyone what she was doing, why she was doing it and who it was for."
