A FARM has achieved planning consent to expand its services.

Humbles Wood Farm in Prudhoe has finally secured planning consent from Northumberland County Council to develop its services by creating a new visitor centre.

The farm was established to serve vulnerable children, Alzheimer’s groups, and the wider community, offering a unique, hands-on experience with animals, and promoting healing and happiness in a safe and nurturing environment.

It provides a rare opportunity for underprivileged children, those with special needs, and elderly individuals to connect with animals and nature.

Visitors can feed the farm animals, while those interested in more interactive experiences, including alpaca walking, goat cuddling, and pony grooming, can participate for a small fee.

For the past two years, farm founders Clive Johnson and Clare Welsh have poured their financial resources into the planning process to ensure that the farm could continue to operate and expand its services.

Prudhoe South councillor Gordon Stewart supported the farm's plans.

"Humbles Wood Farm is a family-run business appealing to locals and attracting visitors from a wide area, it's set in beautiful open countryside within a short distance of the town," Cllr Stewart said.

"Clare and Clive's willingness to grow has been encouraged by the fantastic support shown by so many locals, this is something which we should all be very proud of Prudhoe for. I wish them all the best with exciting times ahead."

The ongoing expenses related to planning and legal requirements have drained the farm's resources, leaving it reliant on the goodwill and generosity of the community.

The farm is now seeking charitable donations to continue to be a beacon of hope in Prudhoe.

These contributions will help maintain the farm’s operations, support the care of the animals, and allow the completion of new features including a woodland trail and a sensory serenity garden. Both projects are expected to be ready in the coming weeks.

The founders say every contribution will help secure the farm's future and ensure it remains a vital resource for those who need it most.

"We are incredibly grateful to everyone who has supported us on this journey, especially Councillor Gordon Stewart and Northumberland County Council for recognizing the importance of our work," said Clare. "Now, more than ever, we need the community’s support to keep this farm alive and running for many years to come."

Humbles Wood Farm invites everyone to visit, experience the beauty and tranquillity it offers, and ensure it continues to thrive as a cherished asset for Northumberland.
