Hexham will host an adaption of Shakespeare's 'Othello' that's inspired by the TV series 'Homeland'.
This production by Elysium Theatre Company is set to tour 19 venues with 27 performances in total.
It promises to be a captivating reinterpretation of the Bard’s timeless tale of love and jealousy.
The play will tour from everywhere between Lancaster and Ormskirk in the West to Newcastle, Leeds and York in the East, between September and October.
Jake Murray, founder and artistic director of Elysium, said: "We hear a lot about the economic levelling-up between the North and South, but much less about the cultural gap that exists between parts of the UK.
"All the feedback we have had from audiences both young and old is that people in our part of the world are finding it harder and harder to see Shakespeare.
"What better way is there to bring theatre to the people than by touring one of his greatest plays to the people of the North?"
The play is set amidst the Obama/Bush war on terror period.
Mr Murray said: "Setting the play during the Obama years will capture the sweep of the play, with 16th century Venice merging with the modern West: sophisticated, technologically advanced, ethnically mixed societies at war with a hostile external force.
"The parallels are perfect.
"Every Shakespearean tragedy is a thriller; setting this during one of the tensest periods of our modern times will only make 'Othello' all the more exciting, and relevant to audiences."
Elysium will also reach out to schools, prisoners, refugees and other groups, who usually have limited access to the arts, including offering free transport and tickets to schools in target areas.
They will also hold talks, Q&As, and workshops.
The company's 14th show, Othello, which features former Coronation Street star Hannah Ellis Ryan and Elysium regulars, Faz Singhateh and Danny Solomon, will also be highlighted at the Durham Shakespeare Festival.
The play will be performed at the Queen's Hall Arts in Hexham on Wednesday, September 18 and Thursday, September 19.
