THE MP for the constituency said he will soon become the patron of a domestic abuse charity.

Hexham MP Joe Morris shared an update on what he has achieved this summer and his upcoming plans for the constituency.

"Each year in August young people from across our area receive their academic and vocational results," he said.

"I would like to take this opportunity to say congratulations to all those who received their academic and vocational results this month. I truly believe that this cohort of young people will go on to be great representatives for our area.

"Results season spotlights the importance of providing our young people with the training and career opportunities that they deserve right here in our constituency. By doing so, we enable them to showcase their talents and build their futures without having to leave the place they call home.

"My visit to JP Westall Ltd., specialists in heating and plumbing highlighted the need for improved apprenticeship and training opportunities that reflect the skills necessary for the jobs of the future.

"I’ve had the privilege over the course of the summer to speak to a broad range of groups including volunteer groups who are working across the constituency to discuss how to support community initiatives and address the climate crisis, to discussing with local businesses the challenges that they are facing or speaking with farmers about the future of their key industry.

"I've had a busy summer, and I look forward to working even harder with the amazing charities, community organisations, businesses and individuals across our constituency - from Callerton and Throckley across to Gilsland and Haltwhistle, from Allendale and Slaley to Bellingham and Longhorsley.

"One organisation I have had the pleasure of visiting is Queen’s Hall, an iconic local institution that provides arts opportunities for young people by supporting early career artists and delivering outreach programmes to local schools throughout Northumberland.

"Some readers may remember my star turn as Dr Who in my Year 4 Sele Leaver's Concert at Queen’s Hall many years ago. As an incredible performance space and community asset, there is great work being done there and I'll look to any opportunities I can to champion it.

"I was also pleased to have the opportunity to visit West Wharmley Farm and discuss the future of livestock farming and how we can work together to ensure its longevity in our constituency. As mentioned in this column previously, I will be leading a parliamentary debate next week on the future of sheep farming. If you have any relevant stories that could contribute to my speech, please reach out to me at joe.morris.mp@parliament.uk.

"This summer has given me an opportunity to start an ongoing process of engagement across our area. For me, this is important so that I can bring your voice to Parliament and the contributions I make in the House of Commons and the representations I make to Ministers are grounded in the reality of life in our area and with those organisations that are at the heart of our communities.

"Finally, I am proud to say that I am becoming a patron of Northumberland Domestic Abuse Services in October. You can find out more about their work at https://www.nda.services."
