Hedley on the Hill is to get a full fibre broadband network.

Fusion Fibre Group announced the plans, saying the extension of its Stocksfield and Mickley network will reach 70 'hard-to-reach' properties in the Northumberland village, thanks to funding by Building Digital UK (BDUK).

The upgrade is said to bring significant improvements in broadband speed and reliability to homes and businesses in Hedley on the Hill.

This 'futureproof connection' will allow the chance for community members to take advantage of opportunities such as remote work and education, as seen in urban areas.

Gary Spooner, Fusion Fibre Group’s national head of sales, said: "Small communities are often poorly serviced and ignored by the larger providers, that’s why we’re so excited to bring this Hedley on the Hill up to speed with full fibre broadband.

"This project underscores our commitment to providing high-speed internet to underserved rural communities.

"An upgrade like this doesn’t just bring faster internet, it unlocks opportunities for residents to stay connected with the modern digital landscape."

Fusion Fibre Group will work closely with Northumberland County Council to deliver the project.

Councillor Wojciech Ploszaj, cabinet member for corporate services at the council, said: "It is fantastic to see full fibre broadband being rolled out to more areas in Northumberland.

"This will make significant strides towards bridging the digital divide in our rural areas.

"This upgrade will provide our residents with faster, more reliable internet, opening up new opportunities for local businesses and the wider community."

Before construction starts in September, Fusion Fibre Group will host a drop-in session at Stocksfield Cricket Club.

People are welcome to stop by on Monday, September 16, between 1pm and 7pm.

Residents of Hedley on the Hill who are interested in a connection or want to know more are urged to contact Fusion Fibre Group’s North East office directly on 0191 4067153.
