An exhibition of creative artworks is being held in two locations as part of National Heritage Open Days.
The 'Without Walls' will feature work by internationally exhibited artists and be held at the Hearse House, St Mark's Church, Ninebanks, on September 7, and Keenley Chapel on September 8.
The public will be able to enjoy a variety of art forms including painting, sculpture, poetry, and music.
John Garner, a violinist, will be creating and performing an improvised response to the location.
He said: "There is a uniquely mystical quality to the Northumberland countryside, as though the land itself breathes at its own patient rhythm, timeless and still.
"I am thrilled to step outside of the conventional spaces of artistic commerce, to instead feel the earth under my feet as I play my violin in dialogue with the elements and innumerable beings all around.
"Standing outside the venues, themselves sacred sites suffused with the joy and suffering of countless generations, this will be a mode of music making which doesn’t belong to spectatorship or performance; rather, it is a meditation on time and place, a practice grounded in gratitude and humility, unplugged from the machinery of our contemporary lives."
Artist Olivia Irvine is excited to showcase her work.
She said: "It is exciting to show artwork in unusual places.
"All the venues for 'Without Walls' have historical significance and are architecturally beautiful.
"That makes it a challenge to situate work within them that resonates.
"It has to add something to the surroundings, temporarily, without looking out of place."
Melinda McGarry, a Newcastle University PhD candidate, is the exhibition curator.
She said: "This is a stunning corner of the North Pennines and artists were thrilled to be asked to show and perform in these buildings.
"This show is an antidote to the commercialism of international galleries.
"'Without Walls' challenges the traditional notion of seeing and participating in art.
"You don’t have to go to a city to enjoy the arts.
"Despite the fact that we cannot use the walls to hang paintings, we are improvising the spaces to ensure we can display work for the public."
