Sophistikaty's Hair and Beauty, Prudhoe Highly Commended

Sophistikaty's Hair and Beauty, based at Prudhoe Front Street, was commended in two categories in the North East Hair and Beauty Awards on September 7 at Rainton Meadows Arena, Houghton-le-Spring.

The salon, which opened in March 2022, was Highly Commended Hair and Beauty Salon of the Year and Highly Commended Salon Team of the Year.

"Last year, we were winners of Hair and Beauty Salon of the Year so even just to be nominated again was overwhelming. When you're there, it's a room full of talent and skill and people who dedicate their whole lives to doing what they do and love it," she said.

Sophistikaty's team with owner Katy Denton centre (Image: Supplied) "The support in the room is fantastic, even just to be in the top 10 of the best salons in the North East is a huge achievement in itself, but to have won last year and come away with Highly Commended for both awards this year is an absolute honour."

Katy explained they found out the salon was a finalist in this year's competition in April and then had to submit a portfolio of supporting evidence about her business to be evaluated.

She said the salon's most sought-after treatments vary.

"We've got five stylists who are flat out all the time, it's really busy. We've got a beauty therapist and we tend to do a treatment of the month where we put a special offer on a certain treatment.

"Facials and massages are always popular, we do B12 and vitamin C injections which are really popular. We've got a nail technician who does a range from your normal luxury manicure to full-pressed nail extensions or gel polish, so there's a variety but most of the services we do seem to be really popular."

Katy added: "I'm lucky to not just be able to fulfil my dream, but to work alongside the most creative and loving, amazing team, I am so lucky. I'm also very grateful to our clients for supporting us and their loyalty, it is a dream come true every single day."
