A HEXHAM resident was honoured to receive an award recognising her efforts in maintaining a communal garden.

Daphne Scott of the Priestlands Estate was awarded the It's Your Neighbourhood Level 3 Award at the Northumbria in Bloom Awards on Wednesday, September 18 at The Fed, Gateshead.

Daphne said: "I feel very privileged to have received this award. It gives me a lot of pleasure to do the garden it's something I enjoy, I don't have one I can personally call my own so took it upon myself to make a nice area for residents to look at. I've had compliments from them saying it's enjoyable to see some colour.

"I never dreamed I'd be awarded, I do it because I enjoy doing it, not to be awarded for it. It's a real honour and a privilege and I'd like to thank everyone involved in giving this award."
