A TOURIST from the United States died after falling off his bicycle on a Cumbrian road, an inquest opening has heard
John Franklin Schultz, 71, went into cardiac arrest after sustaining a head injury from falling off his bike on the A689 between Nenthead and Nenthall.
Area Coroner for Cumbria, Ms Kirsty Gomersal, said that Mr Schultz, whose last occupation was with the United States Air Force, was visiting the UK from his hometown of South Tacoma in Washington, USA.
Mr Schultz, a divorced man originally from Idaho, was identified at the scene by Great North Air Ambulance Service's Dr Bearn.
A cause of death was offered to Ms Gomersal as a head injury.
Due to a head injury not being a natural cause of death, Ms Gomersal explained that an inquest was necessary.
She offered her 'deepest condolences' to Mr Schultz's friends and family, and set a provisional date for conclusion of the inquest of January 28, 2025.
