A charity volunteer who has driven thousands of miles for a hospice has stepped back from her role.
Anne Galbraith, vice-chair of trustees at Tynedale Hospice at Home, has decided to stop volunteering as a driver after eight years.
An essential lifeline for patients needing transport to hospital appointments, she estimates having driven 25,000 miles for the charity.
Whilst volunteers use their own cars for these trips, the hospice covers their expenses.
The Patient Transport service will take people anywhere that is connected to the treatment that they are receiving, making sure that patients receive a 'personal, empathetic transport solution' to and from appointments.
Ms Galbraith will continue in her position on the board of trustees.
She said: "As a trustee, it was fantastic to be face-to-face with our patients.
"I have an understanding of their individual health journey and hear direct feedback about the hospice and how the hospice has impacted on their lives.
"It has been incredibly rewarding to volunteer as a driver as you really feel that you are making a huge difference to someone’s life.
"You deliver this hospice service at the frontline.
"I would encourage anyone looking to volunteer to consider this opportunity."
