The historic Abbey was rated the number one free thing to do in Hexham.

3 Allen Banks and Staward Gorge

This section of Hadrian's Wall in Northumberland National Park is part of a circular walk which includes Sycamore Gap.

8 Mr George's Museum of Time

"Family-run specialist watch and clock repairers, museum and gift shop. The museum showcases watches, clocks, tools and parts through time," TripAdvisor said.

"Lovely place to visit, very interesting. A lot of things for children to do, our little girl enjoyed herself," a review said.

9 Tyne Green Park

"Spent a lovely hour walking the dog along the banks of the Tyne River. Very peaceful," one TripAdvisor review said.

"Very interesting remains of a Roman Mithras temple. It's on the Hadrian's Wall path or 10 minutes from the car park on the B6318 and just by the remains of Brocolita Roman Fort. I recommend you read up about the cult of Mithraism before visiting as it will greatly enhance the experience," one review said.
