A bike hire shop is set to close after 18 years of trading.

The Bike Place in Kielder Cycle Centre will be closing at the end of October.

Ian Bell, owner of The Bike Place, said: "As my lease was due to expire, I decided not to re-tender for another period, and instead look forward to a not very early retirement."

The Bike Place has been serving the community with cycle hire, sales, and repairs since 2006.

"Our business then grew as more trails were developed, which helped us get to where we are now.

"Many thanks to everyone who has helped in this process over those years."

The shop is now selling off its stock of new and ex-hire bikes, with many deals available on remaining stock, including children's bikes, adult mountain bikes, and electric bikes.

Mr Bell said: "To help this process along, we are holding a farewell sale weekend on October 19 and 20, with lots of bargains on offer, and even free gifts to be had.

"So do try and get along, as once they're gone, they're gone."

Forestry England has secured a new tenant for the centre, which will be Team Cycles from Gateshead.

They will open in December.

Looking ahead, Mr Bell said: "The Bike Place website, social media, and contact details will remain the same, so anyone who is still looking for a deal, then that is where to look.

"Continuing to sell online will be my semi-retirement."
