Thousands of litres of apple juice were pressed by volunteers at the annual Corbridge Apple Pressing Weekend.

More than 50 volunteers helped to produce 2,200 litres of apple juice at the event which took place at Corbridge Cricket Club on October 5 and 6.

The juice is turned into drinks which are sold in aid of the Charlotte Straker Project, the Corbridge Youth Initiative, and Corbridge Community Partnership.

Last year, the initiative raised £5,000 for the local organisations.

A spokesperson for the Charlotte Straker Project said: "Community support is the lifeblood of events like the Community Apple Pressing Weekend.

"By donating apples, volunteering their time, or simply buying the final product, local people play a crucial role in making the event a success.

"Their volunteering not only ensures the production of delicious cider and sparkling juice but also helps raise vital funds for three local charities."

Groups picked and collected spare apples from around the town which was then washed, sorted, and pressed to make a "bumper amount of Corbridge Apple Juice."

After it is pressed, the apple juice is transferred to Newcastle University's Stu Brew brewery to be turned into cans of Corbridge Cider and Sparkling Apple Juice.

The drinks are sold by local retailers in the run-up to Christmas, details on where to buy the cans will be announced soon.

One volunteer who took part in the event said: “It made our weekend. We met new people and made new friends. The whole experience was fab."
