Newcastle Airport has been crowned the best in the world at the World Routes Conference in Bahrain.
It is the first time a UK airport has won the 'Overall Winner' award.
The airport also retained its title of 'Best in the World' in the under five million passengers category for the second year running.
Airlines across the globe nominated and voted for Newcastle Airport, recognising its operational excellence, route development, strong relationships with airlines, and innovative marketing of airline products and services.
Nick Jones, chief executive at Newcastle Airport, said: "We are absolutely delighted to have won these prestigious Routes World awards.
"We would like to thank all our airline partners for nominating us and it is testament to the hard work and dedication of our teams who always strive for us to ‘be the best airport’."
Graeme Ferguson, head of airports at InfraBridge, acknowledged the airport's achievement.
He said: "This recognition is a testament to the airport’s long-term, sustainable strategy, driving both operational excellence and enhancing the customer experience for airline partners and passengers alike."
The Routes Awards are highly regarded in the route development community, celebrating the achievements of airports, airlines, destinations, and individuals.
Airlines nominate up to five airports and destinations providing outstanding marketing support over the past 12 months.
A panel of airline judges reviews the submissions and selects the winners.
Newcastle Airport surpassed other category winners including Edmonton International Airport, Prague Airport, and Brussels Airport.
This recognition follows the airport’s recent win of the UK and Ireland Airport of the Year at the 2024 Travel Industry Awards.
During last winter, the airport invested more than £20m in its terminal to improve the passenger experience.
This included the redevelopment of the security search area, the implementation of next-generation security scanners, a full refurbishment of the catering outlets in the departure lounge, and the opening of Aspire’s first three-tier lounge product.
To celebrate the airport’s success, 10 people will be able to experience a 'once-in-a-lifetime' tour of its air traffic control tower and fire station.
To enter the competition, visit the airport’s social media channels or its website.
