Forestry England has revealed a list of low-cost activities for the autumn half-term.
The activities offer families a chance to enjoy the outdoors and include celebrating The Gruffalo's birthday, exploring sculpture trails, and reconnecting with nature on wellbeing trails.
Families can explore the Gruffalo sculpture trail at Forestry England Hamsterley in County Durham and Kielder in Northumberland.
The trail features hand-carved sculptures of characters from Julia Donaldson's classic story, placed in different positions for children to find.
This activity is free, but parking charges may apply.
To celebrate The Gruffalo's 25th birthday, Forestry England has organised a special party trail.
Families can work together to find missing party items, play games, and learn about how plants and animals care for each other.
The trail is available at Forestry England Hamsterley in County Durham and Kielder in Northumberland.
The cost is £4 per Gruffalo trail pack, with additional parking charges.
Forestry England is also encouraging families to reconnect with nature on its wellbeing trails at Forestry England Hamsterley in County Durham and Chopwell in Gateshead.
These trails offer a chance to reflect on the surrounding environment and enjoy some screen-free time.
The wellbeing trails are free, but parking charges may apply.
Members can park for free at all of these events.
Additionally, families can try forest bathing, an activity where children can find a quiet spot to relax and use downloadable activity sheets from Forestry England.
