A talk on the life and music of Joe Hill is coming to a village institute.
Maulds Meaburn Village Institute will welcome Americana, blues, and folk artist and songwriter Holly Carter on Saturday, November 16.
The artist will tell the story of Joe Hill and perform a selection of songs from his extensive catalogue.
Joe Hill, a Swedish-born figure, was executed in Utah in 1915 following a controversial murder trial, a crime he always denied committing.
His life and death remain pivotal to activists, singers, writers, and poets across America and beyond.
Ms Carter, a talented singer, songwriter, and performer, will narrate Hill’s story while accompanying herself with fingerstyle guitar and pedal steel.
Based in Bristol, Ms Carter has twice won Instrumentalist of the Year at the Americana Music Association UK awards.
She is an 'in-demand session player' and has collaborated with names in the Americana, blues, and folk circuits, such as Allison Russell, Amythyst Kiah, and Martin Harley.
More about Ms Carter and her work can be found at hollycartermusic.com.
Tickets for the evening can be reserved by emailing hollyhowe15@me.com, purchased at Appleby Tourist Information Centre, or bought at the door on the evening, priced at £8.
The door and bar will open at 6.30pm, with Holly’s talk and performance commencing at 7pm.
