Mickley First School has seen the 'successful' launch of its new provision for two-year-olds, Mickley’s Little Rainbows.

Opened in September, it was established as part of the Government's drive to expand childcare for families.

Previously, Mickley First School only offered places to children aged three and above.

Over the summer holidays, staff transformed an existing classroom into an environment specifically designed for early childhood development.

The team painted the space and sourced age-appropriate furniture and other resources to create a 'stimulating learning environment'.

The staff have also updated the outdoor environment with a new climbing frame, an upgraded sandpit, and a space for forest school activities.

These improvements have been made possible through funding from Northumberland county councillor, Anne Dale, the PTA at Mickley First School, Essity, and other donations.

The new provision offers flexible options for children aged two and above, with morning sessions currently available and afternoon sessions upon request.

In total, the school can now accommodate up to 24 children under the age of four.

Headteacher Andy Hudson said: "We’re thrilled to have been able to open up this new provision for younger children.

"The space has been transformed and we have already received great feedback from families using the provision.

"We already have a superb team that families speak highly of, our early years classroom is a wonderful space which has helped our new starters to settle in so quickly and enjoy their time here."

Led by classroom assistant Jen Dawson, this is a 'relaxed and friendly session' where families can drop in without the need to book.
