ORGANISERS appealed for the public to support this year's fireworks event.
Hexham Fireworks 2024 will be held on Saturday, November 2. The fireworks start at 7pm on the Sele.
Organisers appealed to those attending to give generously after a substantial shortfall between costs and donations made for last year’s event.
Hexham’s mayor, Cllr Derek Kennedy, said: “The £3,000 difference was made up from the Hexham Town Council budget, which is already stretched. HTC really wants to keep this Hexham tradition alive, but costs have soared over the past few years for fireworks. Please bring at least a couple of pound coins to throw in a collection bucket.”

The event is being organised by AH Events on behalf of Hexham Town Council. Hexham Rotary Club, Tynedale Lions and Hexham Community Partnership have worked with town clerk, Andrew Gooding, on planning and fundraising.
Nick Rossiter, from Hexham Rotary, said: “The Lions and the Rotary are proud to be involved in the event once more. North of Tyne Mountain Rescue and Hexham 41 Club will be joining us on Saturday as stewards. We will all be ready with fundraising buckets at the event. We encourage everyone to bring cash to donate.”
QR codes will be displayed around the site for people to donate using their phones.
A Fireworks Raffle is being run for the first time. Tickets are available for a £5 donation. All stewards will have raffle tickets available and a table will be set up at the Bandstand so people can donate by card.
Janie French from Hexham Community Partnership, the official promoter for the raffle, said: “We’ve had wonderful donations from Hexham’s business community. The top prize is a £150 bundle of vouchers to spend around Hexham town centre and there are 30-plus prizes in addition to that. We hope that the raffle will go down well.”
A full list of prizes will be available on the Visit Hexham website from the morning of the event.
Hexham Rotary set up a JustGiving page for those who can’t attend but want to support the event.

Cllr Kennedy said: “All money raised – whether through cash donations, the JustGiving page, the QR codes or the raffle - will go towards funding next year’s display. Any surplus will be distributed to local good causes once the costs of the 2025 display have been met. It’s going to be a great event and we hope that the hard work of the volunteer fundraisers pays off.”
The four charities will be on site with collection buckets from 5pm. £5 raffle tickets will be available from these stewards (cash only) and the Bandstand (cards only). Catering concessions close to the Sele playground will open at the same time.
Hexham samba band A Batida Da Rua will perform before the display starts. The firework display won’t be choreographed to music this year after last year’s trial had mixed reviews.
Drivers should note that from 5pm-8.30pm, portable traffic signals will operate between the top of Market Street and Beaumont Street, north of Fusilier’s Gate, to allow safe crossing in front of the Abbey for pedestrians.
