A luxury hotel, country estate, spa, and golf destination has been named the 'Best Countryside Hotel' by the Condé Nast Johansens Awards for Excellence.
Matfen Hall, located in Northumberland, received this accolade in the 2025 edition of the awards, which celebrates the best hotels across the UK, Europe, and the Mediterranean.
The five-star hotel managed to surpass strong competition to win the award.
The award was presented at a ceremony on November 4 in London.
This achievement comes after the hotel was also awarded an AA five-star rating earlier this year.
Matfen Hall underwent a multi-million pound renovation project and was awarded the 'Recently Renovated Hotel' title in 2024 at the same awards.
The estate is set in 300 acres of parkland and includes 63 bedrooms, ranging from Classic Rooms to Luxury Suites.
James O'Donnell, head of commercial development at Matfen Hall, said: "Matfen Hall has made significant strides in the past year, being awarded the first and only five star hotel in Northumberland and reopening our state-of-the-art golf clubhouse and dining destination – The Keepers.
"This recognition by Condé Nast Johansens is reflective of the work and commitment put in by the owners and colleagues.
"We thank everyone who voted for us and will continue to maintain this momentum to ensure we offer the very best experience for our guests."
The awards are a respected mark of quality, recognised by luxury consumers and travel professionals.
Winners are selected based on online votes, reviews from guests, and evaluations by the guide’s team of experts over the past year.
The hotel's owner, Walwick Estate Group, has invested in a substantial improvement programme, enhancing every aspect of the hotel, from leisure and golf facilities to the spa and wellness area.
The recent reopening of the newly-refurbished golf clubhouse and restaurant, The Keepers, adds to the hotel's appeal, complementing the 27-hole Championship golf course.
